This will be the first in a series of monthly or possibly fortnightly chats, initially hosted by myself.

It is an opportunity to get together with other NO2IDers from across the country and talk about highs and lows of being a NO2IDer.
The room will be open to visitors so you may get the opportunity to practice your persuasion skills.

In future sessions, we will be inviting special guests to chat with you - Phil has already volunteered. :)

I expect we'll be chatting about recent developments until about 8:15pm at which point, I will be hosting an online meeting for the Bristol sub-group.

AFAIK, Skype supports Linux and Mac. Windows users are recommended to get the latest beta:
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/win ... _beta.html

Voice quality is superb, better than telephone.

Watch this space for further details.

I think this URL will let you enter the Skypecast next Wednesday. Remember to get Skype set up ahead of time. Microphones are optional.

Skype is only available for some Linux systems (x86-32 and a limited number of distributions), users are encouraged to send personal data out of the EU (where our privacy laws have little effect) and AFAICT it's hard to verify Skype's claims about spyware and so on.

There's probably a nice p2p system that has appeared since I last tried to do this, or there are numerous free software/open source conference call boards with callers in as something common and standard, like sip with gsm or sip with speex.

Please at least archive the chat and make it available as ogg or mp3 later.

I don't think we're going to have privacy laws form much longer...

Anyway, since this will be a public chat, it won't be private.

Speex is awesome but the software has to be easy to install.

I can arrange it if I have time. Anything in particular you want to hear about?

Damn sight easier to install than skype. At least it's available and verifiable.

I'm near Bristol but know nothing of the no2id there. Hard to be more specific when I don't know what else in particular is in the chat.

Thanks.

Skype's just click and go. Even includes a tutorial. Speex is just a codec. We need the whole chat kebang...

Bristol NO2ID has been running for 2 years. Our major coup was cornering the last ID card minister into giving an unprepared interview on TV. 8)

You can check out more here, blog at the bottom:
http://www.bristol-no2id.org.uk/

Since the chat went out in the Newsletter and is already published on the Skypecast list, I'm expecting a few newbies. So I'll probably be talking about the basic objections, the Govt's stealth registration net & TBOO. Bristol's main item stuff is setting up a talkbristol online forum, which I'll be talking about any time after 8:15pm.

We're doing a private conference tonight at 7:30pm. It is a standard Bristol NO2ID meeting so it may only interest local NO2IDers:
