I'm disabled and entitled to a blue badge. However when I read the form I was appalled. My local council asked intrusive questions such as ethnicity and sexual preferences. They said this data could be shared with other Government departments to prevent fraud.
To be honest I don't really get the point of the blue badge as the car tax disc serves to prove disability.
Anyhow I was so angry I ripped up the form and threw it in the bin. The intrusiveness just wasn't worth it.I think that authorities think that the disabled are likely to comply with their snooping and therefore ask more questions

Usually the ethnicity questions are optional (and have a "refused to declare" option). Can you supply a link to the online version of the form?

The simple solution is either to leave the box provided blank or put in something along the lines of 'Not Applicable'

They'll get the hint eventually

They had a nice little get out clause
" failure to answer all of our questions could result in you not qualifying for the badge"
I will see if I can find a form.

this is a nasty intrusive form. They seem to have given up asking about sexual orientation but they still snoop (eg asking for the car log book) this simply is not relevant data.
When I applied for a rail card I didn't have any nonsense. I just sent the required proof and it was issued without fuss.

It is quite stern, isn't it? And no "refused" option under ethnicity, and you must allow them to share the information. You could try just refusing and see what happens.

On the car, by "logbook" I think they mean the V5 registration document, not the service book.

yes I knew that they mean't the V5 registration document but I still feel that it is none of their businness. Years ago car owners were told not to share details of that document with anyone.
I decided to tell them to stuff the badge as they are often a huge joke. Example the badge scheme doesn't apply in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea and parts of Camden by order of The Secretary of State. You might get a preferential space at a crummy supermaket. I hate supermarkets and never go to them - my husband does the grocery shopping. So I can manage without the wretched badge
