if a member of the EU (the new countries) has an accident or needs treatment from the nhs but hasn't got a N.I. number. . have they got the right to be treated?

Of course. Anybody who has an accident in this country requiring the emergency services has a "right" to be treated. That's the whole point of "free at point of use".

Odd question...

Not so. Don't hold me to the details, but I think only Brits are entitled to free care as of right. Even for Brits there are circumstances where somebody has to pay under the law (eg. a car insurance company if it's a road accident). Some countries (eg. Ireland) have a reciprocal agreement that entitles them to the same, at least for the time being. Other EU countries (and perhaps other EEA ones too) are entitled under the E111 scheme, and I think the NHS is then supposed to claim repayment from the other State. From further afield, I think the patient is meant to pay and then recover the money from their insurance.

That's the rules, but in practice the NHS often doesn't bother to process the paperwork to get the money back from the other government or the insurance company. Certainly nobody will be denied emergency care - they treat first and ask questions later.

Am teling you this, in Germany, have an accident they will let you bleed all over the floor while they search for your medical insurance papers, have even heard on occasions in some countries you signign over your house as equity against treatment.

Keep Britain free from these treacherous politicians, i say march on downing streetm, take back the right to protest, its OUR right not a gift from Government, therefore cannot be taken away by Government.

throw them all out and damn their breaches to putney bridge.

I can see your Grandparents, parents and and siblings who have fought for this countries rights turning in their graves
