Essex police Authority have shown a total disregard for the rights and
privacy of the people of Essex, after repeated requests for them to hold
the Cheif Constable of Essex to account for what the police do to us the
Authority has blatantly ignored these requests and have treated the
people of Essex with scant regard. My petition is about demanding that
Essex police Authority do what they are paid to do, they are supposed to
be an independent Authority but have shown quiet clearly that they are
no more than a rubber stamp and even a protectorate of Essex police and
their DNA retention policy. Essex police Authority have no interest in
engaging the people of Essex in a public debate over the question of who
should be on the Police National DNA Database?
There are real dangers in keeping INNOCENT people on the database for
life. Within living memory, both fascist and communist governments in
Europe have used personal records as a means of oppressing different
populations. DNA is a powerful tool for tracing individuals and their
families. Access to personal genetic information should be carefully
controlled.
The purpose of this petition is to make Essex police Authority and Essex
police more accountable and to remove INNOCENT people from the NDNAD.

I sometimes think that the only way the ordinary people of this land will be able to have influence in matters like this is to get our people in on the inside. If we had people working in these areas they might be able to expunge the records of innocents by request. This would only work in a small number of cases though. Any large scale expunging would be detected and the moles would be rooted out and fired.

One of the many reasons that terrible injustices will come of the DNA DB is to do with the hashing algorithm that is used on the DNA. Like all hashing algorithms, collisions will occur given enough samples. When the number of samples is small because it is only samples from criminals then the collision probability is much lower than when the sample is the entire UK adult population. I wonder what can be made of this to turn the tide of public opinion against the DNA DB? So many people trot out the NTH/NTF 'argument' for the DNA DB. Maybe they will only be convinced when they get wrongly convicted.

I think the DNA DB is even more depressing than the NIR. After all, only small pieces of the NIR have been implemented yet but the DNA DB is already present and already contains loads of errors.

Once again, civil disobedience seems the only way, but this is going to be really hard, going directly against the police.
