 Post subject: HMRC Data sharing

Hi. I was hoping someone may be able to help me. Does anyone know if the HMRC share personal information with financial institutions, credit reference agencies etc.

If it does, surely this would be a goldmine for potential fraudsters working within those organisations. Are there private companies with data discs floating around. How confidential is the information given to HMRC?

I've worked in retail banking on credit checking systems; the only systems we could access were the banks own records on prior accounts and usage, and the main credit reference agencies reports.

In general, the bank really didn't want to get involved in managing databases of credit information, preferring to just buy the ratings service from the agencies.

What they have access to I can't tell you with the same sort of confidence.
