Item => Consultation launched into the use and sharing of personal information

And No2ID are on the official circulation list. When did we become part of the Establishment? That must be a pretty fast arrival for a relatively young campaign.

We are, indeed, known to the Establishment and have been since shortly after we started.

BTW, this 'consultation' (whatever your thoughts on its ultimate effectiveness) is open to the public. Responses will be summarised and published at some point. If lots of people respond negatively, then Mr Thomas & Dr Walport are going to look pretty stupid/arrogant/undemocratic if they conclude that more data sharing is A Good Thing.

So it would be very helpful if everyone reading this forum* could download and read the 'Data Sharing Review" document:

N.B. Don't feel you have to answer every question, or that you have to be an expert to express an opinion. It's YOUR personal information that they're talking about. Say what you think.

If filling in the whole response form is a bit too much, just focus on Section 7 and answer Question 27 (having read the 'Data Sharing Review' is there anything that you think they've missed, or should be paying attention to?) and/or Question 28 (just give your own views and suggestions about data sharing, data protection and the government's handling of personal information).

*Not many people read this forum, so spread the word. Tell your friends, family (in fact, every family you know post-Datagate), work colleagues, people down the pub, NO2ID local group members, people in other organisations of which you are member, fellow church/mosque/synagogue/temple-goers, your school/college/university mates, etc., etc.

I have filled out the questionnaire, there were a few questions I couldn't answer, but I had a theme around a lot of my answers that involved the right of the individual to control their data. I hope that we get enough people to answer the questionnaire and to shape the results.

I have a concern about why they need my address though.

The form implies that they will be sending a written acknowledgement of your submission. If you don't want one, I don't suppose it would hurt to leave the address box blank - though they may possibly ignore completely anonymous submissions.

At the risk of incitement to etc.... if you don't want to give any personal details, don't.... if the form demands it, create some... certainly innovative phone numbers, emails and postal codes work...

I responded, and couldn't answer all the questions - it's a pain to respond, but it's important so anyone reading this who hasn't yet responded please do so!

I haven't recieved a letter to thank me for my replies but did receive an email, will be interesting to see the outcome, any idea when the results will be published?

It might be worth taking a look over here, where the Open Rights Group is requesting feedback for their submission to the consultation. They do an excellent job of submitting comprehensive responses.
