Just curious... but does anyone know what these buildings are currently (or were previously) being used for? I also wonder if anyone could provide a description of some of them... their location, as in a high street or light industrial area etc.
Just an idle thought, but suspect there's some mileage in being able to point out to people they'd need to travel to some distant town they don't normally visit, to find some anonymous office at the bottom of IKEA's carpark, or that its a central location with zero chance of finding a parking space etc etc?
Oh... and while I'm asking for wishes to be granted. Is it not time to create a special "Processing Centres" forum - I'm sure these are going to be a hot topic soon and it might be good idea to keep it all in one place?

It simply acknowledged my request and promised a reply under FOIA by 5 Nov. It was signed illegibly (looks like "HR") with "Signed on behalf of the Identity and Passport Service" underneath. So whoever it was didn't feel the need to reveal their identity!
If you're going to write in, it might be sensible to make a slightly different request. My very broad request, for instance, is vulnerable to fobbing off like "we don't cover Scotland so we can't fulfil your request" or "some office locations haven't been decided so we're not giving you a reply". No point in us all sending in identical requests, as they'll all get the same answer.

Replies from UKPS used to come from a named person, but they started signing on behalf of the IPS instead of with their names as soon as the IPS was formed. Unsurprising really, considering how secretive the Identity Cards Team were; their secrecy was bound to infect any organisation that they became part of.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST: THE LOCATION OF THE 69 IPS INTERVIEW OFFICES AS REFERRED TO ON THE IPS WEBSITE LOCATED AT THE FOLLOWING URL: http://www.identitycards.gov.uk/Intervi ... /index.asp.
This is a request for disclosure of information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I wish to make use of the act to request the disclosure of information pertaining to the proposed locations of each of the 69 Indentity and Passport Service (hereinafter referrred to as 'IPS') offices that are scheduled to be built in accordance with the government's plans for the introduction of National Identity Cards and the National Identity Register as defined by the Identity Cards Act 2006.
The information I wish to have disclosed, is the specific location of each of the 69 IPS offices that have been scheceduled for construction in order to meet the requirements for registration as defined by the Identity Cards Act. Additionally, I wish to know the names, addresses and contact details of each of the respective councils that have been charged with assessing the planning applications fo these offices.
Additionally, I seek all copies of all emails and any other interdepartmental correspondence relating to the decision making process which lead to the final decision as to the location of these offices. That is, where it is proposed that these offices be located.
My preferred format to receive this information is by electronic means followed by hard copies. Alternatively, I can come and inspect the relevant documents in person and make my own copies if this should prove to be the simplest method of providing the information I seek.
As required by the aforementioned act, please provide an explanation of the purpose, meaning, and context of the information requested.
You are required to supply this information as soon as possible - no longer than twenty days.
I understand that you are required to properly identify any applicant for access to information requested via a disclosure of information request. Please promptly advise me by electronic mail at: ******@********.com or by telephone at: *** **** **** whether any further information is required from me, or whether the information contained in this email is sufficient.
I further understand also that as a public body, you are entitled to levy a charge for the collation and publication of the data requested. Please would you therefore notify me as soon as possible if such a charge is necessary.
If it is not your policy to disclose this information I would urge a re-assessment. The applicable exemptions under the FOIA are qualified by a public interest test. I assert that because the public will be required to register at any one of these IPS offices, they therefore have a direct interest in knowing the location of such offices and the status of their respective planning application.

Thanks, I was struggling to find the location for Newcastle. This is upstairs from a Job Centre+.

Well, I stand corrected
This is actually very useful information, as it confirms that only 21 of the centres have been identified as yet. I'm not sure that "IPS has taken delivery of 21 offices" is strictly accurate, if the planning appeals haven't been heard yet - it would be nice to prove them wrong!

Actually, I think we have this the wrong way round. Take a closer look at the layout.

The panic room is directly accessable to the reception desk and via a "Flap" to the security guard. Since when is a customer accessable area only accessable through a door behind the reception desk. This is not panic stricken customers, for the use of. This is for the staff.
Maybe this would be a good question to raise through our non-Labour MPs.
Why does the UKIPS see fit to provide a panic room for staff in their design for the new Identity Card Interrogation Centres?

Maybe they think their interrogation centres might be the focual point of some kind of civil unrest and direct action???
