NO2ID

Just turned on News24, the article was the first item, about 6 minutes long, covered Richard Thomas' "excessive" and "surveillance state" comments and even showed a cute female No2ID protestor on Parliament Square.

What happened on the terrestrial news?

Hope you guys are ready for tomorrow, you might actually get half the media descending upon you!

I caught a good piece with someone (editor?) from Computer Weekly pointing out the technical problems with the NIR.

It was on news24 at just after nine. Was this what you saw or have the BBC finally gotten the message and started covering the scheme in depth?

ID cards were mentioned in the House of Commons today I think so there will probably be a bit on Newsnight and in tomorrows papers.

Somebody suggested that the same company that set up the data base for the working family tax credit could be used for the ID card system, amazingly the misnister for the home office just said that no dection had yet been made. You would of though a if acompany created a computer database and system to help the "hard working family" that has left these now-harder-working-families with up to a £2,000 bill could at least be rule out even if a destion hadn't been made.

There is definitely noticeable BBC coverage now. I only found out about this issue in the first place by my daily habit of reading the BBC news website.

News editor - he was on around 9:23-9:28pm. The earlier section was at 9:01pm. (And the clock on this board is an hour slow!)

Have they got the message? Hope so although News24 have covered the scheme before, interviewing 6 or 7 'experts' one day.

However, this was much more anti- ID Cards, and it's not like they couldn't cover our deporting of tortured Zimbabwean political refugees...

Needless to say, the BBC is potentially our best ally in this fight. We've been doing well without their help but you won't believe the difference mass media will make. Especially if it comes down to the Parliament Act or when e-passports and/or a Data Sharing Bill come up.

News24 are still covering ID Cards.

I saw an interview with Martin Salter (very pro) and coverage of e-passports:

70 new passport centres are being built. Next year, new applicants for passports will have to submit to an interview and have a facial biometric taken. Presumably you'll be Numbered and entered on the ID Database too.

From 2008, even passport renewals will have to submit for an interview.
