is anyone aware of when the Home Secretary will be able to start adding
details to the NIr?
The DWP seem to have already the power to summon one to an interview
and request details that are worryingly simillar to those required for the
Orwellian Database..

I have received such a summons for tomorrow morning, as the IR have
a query with my NI number.
I am supposed to provide them with every address I have lived at since
the age of 15 (I was born 1963), full documentation to prove identity and current address, and account to the government for what I have been
doing my entire adult life!
 - and all because of an administrative error on behalf of the IR/NI.
Having renewed my passeport last summer, I am very concerned that I may be one of the first to be entered on the dreaded register.
With the refusal of the DWP to issue temp NI numbers, it seems the Dictators of Downing street have been building up a simillar database linked to National Insurance- it is very hard to exist currently without a
valid NI number.. can anyone advise me as to my rights (if such things still exsist under our present administration, which personally I believe they no longer do) :?:

Your rights are few. You could refuse to attend... but its likely to cause you more harm - loss of benefits, pension entitlements or incorrect tax deductions. You can also END any interview if you feel its leading somewhere nasty, tell them you refuse to answer any further questions until you've taken legal advice. The best advice is to answer honestly but volunteer nothing until asked.

Without knowing your circumstances, its difficult to judge whether why they need to see you. But it may possibly be for your own good... just maybe they've discovered someone else has been using your NI number? Sometimes the Dept's do get things wrong and they are just trying to make sure you don't lose out?

Let us know what happens.

Incidentally, the Government has always recorded my birthdate wrongly. I've given up trying to correct it, they merrily assume they're right and I'm wrong... I'm not worried now because it means I can retire a few days earlier

When they have a problem with NI numbers it is standard procedure to ask for the information you have outlined to help them find your National Insurance number.

Here is a link to the CAB website which may be of some help...

There is no law preventing such a thing (except possibly the HRA).

Central No2ID believe that October is the first time they can force passport applications/renewals to register.

So soon? How will all the new processing centres be built in time?

I suspect that even without modern building techniques, the gulags were put up quicker than that.
