The snooping Bill is out to catch crooks, not ensnare terrorists

By Fraser Nelson

8:47PM BST 05 Apr 2012

...

And as for the data? The truth here is rather duller: the Government really wants to create another tool to help detectives. This is hardly an ignoble endeavour; technology does help solve crimes, and the police would like more technology at their disposal. But there are very legitimate concerns about whether this massive database will be used by town hall snoops, and such concerns can’t really be answered by a minister muttering darkly about national security. “Tinker, tailor, soldier, tax evader” has a far less glamorous ring to it, but catching crooks, not terrorists, is what most of the Government’s snooping Bill is really all about. It ought to say so.

Fraser Nelson has obviously been sent forth to defend the party line, just like Matthew d'Ancona in the Standard. Unlike d'Ancona, he pulls his punches, he remains aware of the truth that keeps peskily showing through. He has some scruples.

The articles being written in the last few days are blatant. One after another telling us its OK, its not that bad,and we do need new measures. Why is the press so willing to play ball, and want to deny its own readers their civil liberties. There is something wrong going on right now.

This article is yet one more attempt to make a 'feasible' case for government snooping when instinctively most of us know that this should never be condoned. The fact that so many 'journalists' like yourself are now trying to sway us otherwise instead of pointing out the obvious 'horrors' only shows the true depth of the ugliness of the forces that are against us and makes me feel sick to the stomach.

This is deliberate policy to enslave the entire British population, the police are most certainly wanting just that. We expect less of this from a conservative administration, but then none of them are conservatives. Every little bit of freedom given up leads straight to slavery how ever the politicos claim safeguards. These never happen. I have never in my 78 years seen such intolerance, bad manners and plain tyranny from government. During the last war we had far greater freedom than we do now. We want our freedoms back NOW, the Common Law was respected and worked so use it. We do not need any more secret courts, there are already too many of them.

The Telegraph has been pro the govt snooping charter, but I'm pleased the say the Daily Mail has written some fabulous Anti snooping charter articles.

The Telegraph can't get traction, but if you check out the Independent/Mail - they do have traction against these laws.

But - the Telegraph need to hang their heads in shame on this. Only Delingpole a blogger for them has come out against a Police State... which means we have a very good idea that the Telegraph is acting as a mouthpiece for the govt... and getting nowhere. :)

The govt seem to be surprised that we're "not" in favour of Councils having access to our emails and phone calls. I mean.. who do we think we are.
