Consultation seminar for the community on Home Office plans for the DNA database

Senior politicians and community leaders have welcomed plans for a public consultation seminar on the over representation of innocent people from African Caribbean communities who have their details on the criminal DNA database.
Half day seminar on the national DNA database and Briton's black communities
Scheduled for 9.30am-12 noon on Friday 17th July 2009 in Room D402, Clement House, at the LSE, Aldwych, this free half day seminar, which is open to the public offers the only opportunity for people from the community to learn about how to take part in the Home Office consultation entitled, ‘Keeping the Right People on the Database'.
‘Young black men are much more likely than other groups to have records on the database. Black Britons now have a chance to have a say about their DNA and defend their rights,' Dr Helen Wallace director of Gene Watch UK said.

The London Seminar, which is hosted by the Policy Engagement Network, the Information and Innovation Group at the London School of Economics will equip delegates who attend with the essential information needed to be able take part in the Government's consultation 'Keeping the right people on the DNA database', which runs until the 7th August 2009.

Organised by Black Mental Health UK and Gene Watch UK, supported by LSE's Policy Engagement Network, the Information and Innovation Group is open to the public and free to attend but requires online registration. Click here to register.
