HOST families who take in language students under 18 could be hit with hefty bills due to new child protection legislation coming in from July next year.
The rules say that both parents in a family must register with the Government’s Vetting and Barring Scheme at a cost of £64 per applicant.
Once 28 days are up then everyone over 18 in the household must register.
The Echo has already heard of one host family of three who could be hit with a bill of around £192.
