'Big Brother' spells end for Scout Jamboree

THE traditional Scout jamboree is under threat after 90 years because of controversial Government anti-paedophile vetting rules which come into force today.
Up to 40,000 Scouts from dozens of countries gather each year to celebrate the movement founded by Lord Baden-Powell.
But thousands of foreign adult volunteers needed to organise the gathering in the UK would have to register and face a criminal record check.
That would be impossible and events would have to be cancelled, Scout leaders warned yesterday.
Volunteers failing to register under the new Independent Safeguarding Authority, designed to deter paedophiles getting involved with youngsters, face a criminal prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000.
