Not sure where to post this but thought it might be of interest.
Noticed a letter to my mother the other day from some outfit apparently tasked with helping the elderly or others tagged "vulnerable" to the digital TV switchover. Apparently they have received data from a number of authorities (a rather frightening list provided in the letter) to help them identify those who might need help.......... I was stunned. I thought personal info given the local authority, council, NHS, TV licensing etc was private and under the data protection act was only supposed to be used for the purpose it was given. Maybe I could understand if only TV licensing was cited w.r.t. free TV licenses for the elderly, but the list of other authorities passing on info seemed to indicate that they feel they can do what the hell they like with whatever information they like!
