The Daily Telegraph reported on monday that a Mininster at Work & Pensions gave 40+ contacts of a bereaved spouse as a justification for the proposed links between Gov Depts!!! This (& the disconnected police databases within the the HO) shows only how lousy are the electronic and paper databases that should be running withIN any Dept. If one of us died and the other had to have more than one communication with any one of Pensions, Inland Revenue, Passport Office, NHS, Council Tax, voting Register, DVLC etc. we would certainly be aggrieved. However we would be far more distressed if we did NOT deal separately with each of theses bodies. We want to sort out own tax business, our own NHS registration, our own driving license, our own vote etc. as separate jobs with the seperate bodies of government - not have the registration of a death bring the whole apparatus of the State bombing down on our family.
