 Post subject: Sing! An anthem....
PostPosted: Thu, 04 May 2006 19:43:24 +0000
I think the time has come to have an (officially sanctioned, not-llegal if possible at all) demonstration. Outside parlaiment of course is the only place a demo is worth holding, for which official permission is required. Anyway, I'm willing to turn up and shout a bit. We just should all have a song which everyone can sing happily in one voice. So, my proposal is (to be sung to the tune of Rivers of Bablylon....

By The rivers of Babylon
Where we sat down
And Yea we wept
When we remembered Zion
How the wicked
Tried to force us into captivity
Requiring from us a scan
Why should I give my DNA to a strange man?

<<<First seven lines to be repeated, followed by>>>
Why should they want my DNA in my Home Land

Only a suggestion. Any other ideas welcomed. I don't think lying down on this one is a good idea any more....

If only we could get Boney-M to join No2ID and sing it with us - that would be publicity!

Rivers of Babylon, No2ID mix - people might even buy it!

I suppose so. Although I think it is standard to try to get Bono and Bob Geldof involved on such projects. Maybe Sting. Although, while they are so busy worrying about other countries, I doubt the wholescale screw-up of ours will get a look in... :?

I was being serious when I said Boney-M, though I doubt whether they still exist. Rivers of Babylon was a very big hit and had a sort of universal appeal that Sting could only dream of.

Parliament has become a non free speech zone, but you can protest with consent within a half mile of it. Another joy of living in a police state

Bono and Geldolf would certainly generate a lot of publicity, but then after the concert, they would announce that they had managed to gain concessions (those already gained) and then Geldolf would have a go at the NO2ID representative who had the cheek to say that this deal was not good enough. And of course he'd do it in front of the press, who would then report Geldolf's opinion as fact, because he's been knighted after all.

Why not sing, "We shall overcome"? If it was good enough for the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, why not use it here?
