Post subject: Lost working days for interviews/biometric recording
PostPosted: Wed, 06 Jul 2005 23:22:42 +0000
I think I have seen somewhere on the site a figure of 4.5m passport renewals per year.
If all these people need to attend an interview they could quite probably need to take a day off work to attend it. That would then amount to 4.5m lost working days per year.

For arguments sake, let’s say only 3m passports renewed belong to those in fulltime employment

Department for Work and Pensions minister Lord Hunt said that 30m days lost to illness cost the economy £11bn. Therefore 3m days lost to attend an interview would cost the economy £1.1bn, annually.

The Lord Hunt report was welcomed the Institute of Directors. Has anyone from NO2ID approached the IoD to comment on this issue?

Probably quite a bit more than that, since the more you are paid the less likely you are to take time off sick--the work is more fun to do, you are less likely to have industrial injuries, and more likely to feel irreplaceable--and the more likely you are to have a passport.
