Hi,

I'm wondering how the identity cards tie in with biometric passports, which, as far as I'm aware, we're all getting anyway.

Aren't these identity cards through the back door?

Why is no-one protesting about these measures?

For the record, I'm dead against ID cards for reasons too numerous to mention but it seems to me that a part of the battle has already been lost.

Well, I'll be renewing mine before the deadline, which should give me 10 years. During that time we'll have to see off ID cards and then take the government to court, since the biometric passports would then break EU laws.

Only if you buy one. This is probably the least controversial part of the plan. However, contrary to what Blair has been telling everyone, the only biometric the USA and ICAO presently require is a facial scan, (i.e. a digital photo.) See:

It's not over yet, there's still plenty of writing to MPs, talking and persuading to do.

I trust you'll join the fight?
