Hi,

I'm fairly new to the forum but have disagreed with the idea of ID cards and the NIR on principle for years. I wrote to my MP in my previous constituency about this issue a couple of years ago.

I am now living in a completely different area and want to lobby my current MP. I now know a lot more about the subject having spent just about every hour of every day on this forum for the last 3 weeks. I am currently trawling through all the old articles and publications and have found a link to the votes for the second reading (my MP voted for the bill). However, I don't know whether her stance has changed since.

Since there are over 250 pages of topics on 'Articles & Publications', can anybody tell me where I can find info about how my MP has voted since the 2nd reading?

Trin

I found the following about my MP:

Quote:
Voted very strongly for introducing ID cards. votes, speeches
Voted very strongly for Labour's anti-terrorism laws. votes, speeches
Voted strongly against investigating the Iraq war. votes, speeches

Aah. It is as I feared! Seems like her values are probably diametrically opposed to mine. Looks like I'll have a fight on my hands!

It doesn't necessarily tell you what your MP actually thinks about ID. (Or even that s/he has thought about it at all.) Just that that they are a loyal member of the Government.

It is well worth probing politely to encourage them in any doubts they may have privately about the scheme.

Politely. Ok I shall spend the next few days carefully crafting my letter. Must be gentle.
