Hi there,
I am working for my employer for 3 years now. In June 2009, my employer has asked me to provide them with a copy of my CV and a copy of my passport for SAS70 purposes. I have advised them that I have given those details to them on my 1st day of employment, but HR told me that those documents has gone missing and I need to provide them again. Because I am very concerned about Identity thefts, I have asked them for a full investigations of whom has access to the data, etc, before I give them my details again. Then the HR manager has sent me a very nasty, lengthy email telling me to provide the details again or I will face displinary actions. At the time, I was so scared to lose my job, I have applied them with both documents again. As I am currently compiling a formal grievance about the company for a different reason, I have asked them to take a look in my HR files. Doing that, I have noticed that they now have my CV in there, but again they have lost my passport details!!! I am very upset about this and am wondering where I stand now, as I do not think that this is an acceptable behaviour. Also, I am now VERY reluctant to provide them with another(!) copy of my passport again. Can you give me some advice how to go from here? Thanks.

I can't find anything about requirements of identity / past employment for SAS70 which is for financial processes Even if they can be required, they fall squarely into the "optional" camp. Having lost your details twice, not only would I tell them to get lost if they want them again, but also that the fact that they have lost copies of important documentation (which they DO NOT NEED TO HAVE, certainly after 3 years of employment) means they have committed a crime by not safeguarding them. Twice.

Thanks for that, it certainly helps. They have asked me again for the details and told me that if I do not supply them, I will get dismissed - after 3 years in the country - really unbelievable!

I'm sure that contravenes employment law somehow...
