I'm about to renew my British passport and am of dual nationality, Swiss being the other half.
I've noticed you now have to declare other passport in section 3 of the application form, and send off these passports. I'm currently in the UK on family business but do not usually live here. Over the last 8 years I've lived in 6 countries and traveled to many m35ore. Most of this has been on my Swiss passport, but recently i've had to use my British one to obtain certain visas.
I would rather not declare my other nationality and send off my Swiss passport. I don't want them flicking through my stamps and asking questions. Not that I have done anything bad, but certain countries might raise eyebrows.
I here the Govt. is wanting to crack down on dual nationalities too.
If I declare "No" in section 3, how likely are they to check?
Any advice or info on this would be much appreciated.

My suspicion is "likely", and my dislike of that box is the reason I am not renewing my children's British passports. But I don't have any evidence to support my suspicion, I'm afraid.

The first commenter on this thread said they'd heard that they (the UK govt?) may start cracking down on dual nationality. I can't find anything about this---would be very grateful if you could say where you got this information. Is it true?

I have dual nationality and renewed my visa last september. I went to the Post Office did the check and send option. I asked at the counter about this and I was told you only need to complete this section if it is a new/first time application for an adult passport. I left this blank and received my renewed passport 1 week later!

Hi. I've not heard anything about a 'crackdown' on dual nationality. The newer UK passport form does ask you to declare. I assume other sovereign nations are not obliged to disclose their citizens' identities to the UK government. Thus the only way for the UK authorities to find out if you have another (or two...or three..or five...) nationalities is to ask you! Also, they ask for any previous, not just current.
The system can't be that effective anyway. It is possible to use one passport to exit a country and another to enter, scanned at both ends, without any problem. Just don't flash the other passport. (possible exception: countries with compulsory military service if you are due)
