My husband was naturalised a couple of years ago and applied for a British Passport 6 weeks ago. He had the interview within a week and was told his interview was fine and his passport would arrive 4-10 working days after. No passport arrived and since then we have been ringing up regularly and been told a different story each time. That they do 'random quality assurance checks', that it has been sent off for 'extra checks', that 'some security checks' are needed. They can never tell us exactly what they are doing and all the time assured my husband his passport would arrive in time for our family holiday planned for Tuesday 24 Aug 2010. We haven't been on holiday for 5 years and can't afford to cancel or go on another holiday later so I will be going alone with my kids. Now they are saying it will take 10 days to issue the passport after they get the results of the checks back, but still can't tell us when they will get these results. Does anyone know what they are doing or if we can insist on them giving my husband a document to travel? They keep saying there is nothing they can do but wait.
