Can I travel from the Uk to Barcelona without a passort? I have a provisional driving license and have been told that this is enough as its photographic ID, Can any one tell me if this is right?

Regardless of whether the Spanish immigration officials at Barcelona will accept your provsional licence (and my guess is that they won't), you'll almost certainly find that your airline won't accept your licence as "photo ID" at UK airport check-in. Take a look on their web site to see what they'l accept.

No, of course you can't. Anyone of any nationality can get a provisional driving licence. You need a travel document that shows your nationality and your consequent right to be in Spain. If you're from an EEA country, you may enter Spain (or any other EEA country) using a national ID card issued by your country of nationality. If you don't have an ID card, you will have a use a passport instead. You also need an ID card to pay with a debit/credit card in Spanish supermarkets. Again, if you don't have an ID card, you'll need to carry your passport with you to go shopping - not convenient I know, but that's one reason you need an ID card instead.

I do not recommend that you carry your passport on your person unless it's absolutely necessary--passports are the number-one thing that thieves look for on tourists in strange cities--so get an ID card.

You need a passport but lorraine is right about thieves. I always carry mine in my jacket inside pocket also I
scan every page into my computer so I have a record of it just in case. Good luck on your trip.
